Boat Explosion At Bahamas Killed One American, Injured Others

Boat explosion at Bahamas killed one American, injured others on Saturday morning. The vessel busted into flames and black smoke, killing one American tourist and injuring nine others, according to a report.

The American who was killed in that explosion was celebrating her wedding anniversary with her husband. There were 12 people on the boat – 10 U.S. citizens and two Bahamian crew members – who were starting on a trip near the Bahamas’ Great Exuma Island, Royal Bahamas Police Force Superintendent Shanta Knowles reported.

“This is a sad day for Exuma and a sad day for our American friends. We are saddened and our hearts are hurting, but we will get through this together,” Bahamas Parliament member Chester Cooper posted on Facebook.

After boat explosion at Bahamas, the U.S. Coast Guard airlifted four passengers to a Florida hospital after receiving help message. EMS Air Ambulance airlifted others for medical care at Nassau’s Princess Margaret Hospital.

According to a report, Melvin Grimes said that his daughter, Maleka Jackson had died. She and her husband had booked the trip to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.

Among the injured was a 22-year-old Stefanie Schaffer, a beautiful and an aspiring dancer, who suffered massive internal injuries. Her brother, George Schaffer said that she is currently in a medically induced coma at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.

“She got really seriously injured,” Clifton Park resident Mike Schaffer said. “Her legs below her knees had to be amputated.”

“You see this stuff on TV but you don’t ever think it’s going to be someone you know, and it’s my own blood, my own nieces,” Mike said. “It’s a miracle that Stef’s even alive.”
